Lifting chain

Lifting chains are often used in a chain sling, a widely used lifting tool in various industries. They are made of either steel or fiber.

Grade 6 is in stainless quality.

Grade 8 (also called Grade 80) is made of alloy steel, approved, and intended to handle heavy lifts. It is known for its high strength, durability and resistance to deformation. It can be used in a wide range of applications, including construction, mining, shipbuilding, etc.

Grade 10 (also known as Grade 100) is our best-selling lifting chain. It is made from a higher-quality alloy steel than Grade 8 chains and has an even higher strength and load capacity. Grade 10 is often used in applications where extra strength and durability are needed, such as the offshore and shipbuilding industries.

Grade 12 (also known as Grade 120) is the highest grade available in steel chains. They are made from alloy steel and known for their extremely high strength and load capacity. Grade 12 chains are typically the most expensive and are used in applications where the absolute highest strength and durability are needed, such as in the oil and gas industry.

Grades are a standardized way of categorizing steel based on its tensile strength and strength properties. There are also lifting chains made of synthetic fibers, made of the world's strongest fibre (UHMWPE fibre, which is made of Dyneema®). They have the advantage that they are lighter and, therefore, easier to handle. They are soft, gentler on the lifted items, and they float on water.

To ensure that the equipment can handle the required load, it is essential to choose the right Grade of chain and components for the specific lifting task. Complying with the relevant standards and guidelines for safe use and maintenance is also essential.

If you want to know more about this, you can find more information on our article page Worth knowing about chain, and in the video Chain sling - Grade 8, 10 and 12 you can see what it means for WLL and weight if you replace a Grade 8 chain sling with a Grade 10 chain sling. In our sling configurator, you can build your own sling.
